Citic Pacific provides update on massive iron ore project

Citic Pacific provides update on massive iron ore project"

Western Australia's Pilbara region has been the focal point for new iron ore mining projects for years, and it doesn't appear this momentum could begin to slow anytime soon.

The area is home to the enormous Sino Iron Ore project, which is being developed 100km outside Cape Preston. Construction to get the mine up to speed has been a huge endeavour, and the company behind the project - Citic Pacific - recently provided an update on how the progress is developing.

The updates showed that although there were some problems with the gearless motor that powered the grinding mill on production line two, engineers had made all the necessary repairs to machine.

"We are pleased to report that the problem has been rectified and the motor successfully passed its required voltage test and was re installed into the grinding mill," the company said in a release.

"Load commissioning of line two began on 27 September and the line has been running well."

Citic added that the commissioning process will also lead to a better production line, and that once this starts it will collect and analyse data on the mine's stability and reliability.

As for the first production line, there have been several advancements since July, and the company is eager to start producing from the mine shortly.

"The line has been running well and producing good quality concentrate. We are now moving into the production stage," the group concluded.

Engineers say that when the mine is complete, it will be able to produce as much as 70 million tonnes of resources every year, and it will require about 4,000 people to operate the facility.
